Thyroid Hormone Synthesis – Iodine Transport

Dietary iodine is wholly absorbed from the gut, 100-200µg being required daily. Inorganic iodide is concentrated in the follicles by active transport across the cell membrane, and then rapidly transferred across the cell into the colloid lumen.
